Three Acne Treatments You Need to Use Right Now to Clear Your Acne

Health Articles | August 18, 2009

There are several acne treatments that are effective for many acne sufferers. However, I don't recommend all of them because some are simply too expensive or too risky. For instance, laser treatments work well for acne and acne scars, but one visit can cost upwards of $300. Many dermatologists prefer to give their patients oral contraceptives, which are effective for some, but can actually make acne worse for others. It also has a tendency to cause weight gain.

Tip: If your acne treatments are causing you to gain weight, you probably shouldn't be using them.

There are a number of other treatments you can choose from instead. I'm going to show you the top acne treatments I recommend for acne patients, many of which I have used myself.

1. Microdermabrasion: This is a great option for many acne patients. Microdermabrasion is one of the least invasive treatments, and one of the least expensive. However, one visit can cost more than $80 or so, but one treatment goes a long way; at least it did for me.

2. Chemical peels: These are better for nonfacial skin, such as your neck, back, and chest. I have had a couple of mild chemical peels done on my skin, and I have relished in the results every time. The first time you have one, you might peel, as if you had gotten a sunburn. Subsequent visits won't usually do that to you, though. You can expect to pay at least $60 per chemical peel treatment.

3. Proactiv: Spare me the jokes; I really use Proactiv, as I have for over a year now. Before I used it, I used to just diss it, but I'd keep having to switch the cleansers I was using because they quit working. I finally decided to give Proactiv a try, and I haven't looked back since. I would suggest getting the basic kit first, and go from there. There's quite a few freebies with the kit, such as the sulfur treatmentArticle Search, that I use all the time for little spot treatments here and there when they creep up.

If you're a victim of acne vulgaris, usually just known as acne, you're constantly worrying about how to get rid of those pesky red bumps on your face, back, or chest. I know, because I've been there. If you're like me, you've probably taken (or are considering) prescription drugs, prescription topical medications, and other harmful substances to get rid of your acne quickly. I don't blame you, but that's not always the best way to go about getting rid of acne. The problem is, these medications usually have a harmful effect on the rest of your body, even if they are effective on your acne.
